ATB Connector Technology

BEI has helped develop the BARK RIVER ATB CONNECTOR. Connection between tug and barge is made by two, tug-mounted, transverse pistons with toothed heads that when extended, mate with a toothed vertical rack in the barge. The toothed rack of the barge has length to permit connection at various draft conditions. Hydraulic cylinders opposing each other against a centerline stanchion accomplish extension of the pistons. Operation of the cylinders is from electric control panels.
